How To Practice Eft Sitting on a Park Bench

You never know when eft healing can come in handy. It is such an easy and quick technique to use that it is ready to be applied at the drop of a hat. Well, I got my chance to put this tapping therapy to work very recently, once again.

It was a lovely sunny day last Sunday …

… and I decided to go for a walk in the local park to get some fresh air after being stuck in the office all week.

As I was sitting on a bench contemplating the play of light and shadow amongst the leaves gently moving in the light breeze, a lady in her late 40’s or early 50’s came and sat down next to me. As she approached and settled herself onto the bench she was making grunting noises, which obviously indicated that she was in some kind of pain.

So I opened up the conversation by saying ‘hmm-mm you look like you are in pain’

She went on to describe how her back had been troublng her for quite a long time now and that regular painkillers hadn’t been working all that well. So I suggested we try this technique called emotional freedom tapping. I explained that I had spent some time on eft training and that I had had quite a lot of success with it, particularly in the area of back pain.

She was quite intrigued and after I explained a little about how it worked, which basically boils down to doing some light tapping for a few minutes with the fingertips on a number of known acupressure points on the body – mostly around the face – she agreed to give it a go.

It was quite an enjoyable experience doing something like this in the open air with the sun shining.

Anyway, we started by establishing first, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much pain she was in and exactly where the pain was. She described it as at an 8 level and in the middle of the lower back. Then we started tapping with the right fingers on the karate chop point of the left hand. I told her to just follow what I was doing and to repeat after me, whatever I said. The statement I started with was: ‘Even though I have this 8 level pain in the middle of my lower back …’ (it is good to be very specific about the pain) ‘… I deeply and completely love and accept myself as I am’ and we repeated this three times.

Next she followed along as we tapped for three rounds on 7 or 8 points from the top of the head, around the eyes and eventually down to the collar bone and on a point under the arm, more or less in line with her bra line. As we were tapping we just kept on repeating ‘this lower back pain’. We finished off by taking a deep breath.

At this point I then asked her to check in on that scale of 1 to 10 to see how the pain was doing. She reported that it had gone down to about a 3, which she found both perplexing and amazing since she had never heard of this emotional freedom eft ‘thing’ before. We laughed and then I suggested we give another couple of rounds to see if we could get it down to a zero. By this time she was quite keen to give it another go.

So, a couple of rounds later and … the pain was completely gone!

She was over the moon and I was delighted. It is such a great gift to be able to share this simple eft technique so easily and to such great effect. It was certainly an enjoyable afternoon in the park, for both of us.
